At the Waver Hill Party in the Park event on the 17th July everyone had the opportunity to vote for their favourite sculpture design shown at the Trinty Church. The votes have been counted and the winning design is the ‘Globe’ shown below.
Julie Wards from Planet Art, part of the Beyond Bricks Project funded by Urban Living, worked along with the students, children and community group who came up with the winning design which is currently being made. The Globe represents Soho being central and is a reflection of the many different cultures who live in Handsworth. It also relates to Soho House the home of Matthew Boulton who was the founder of the Lunar Society. The Lunar Society was a group of enlightened individuals who, in the late 18th century, used to meet at the time of the full moon and discuss philosophy, science, arts and commerce. For more information on the Lunar Society click here.
The design will be at the centre of the park and encourage the community to take pride in the park and use the park.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the design and voted for their favourite designs. Let’s look forward to seeing the sculpture when its installed in Waver Hill Park.
