Here’s the meat of the story I mentioned in my recent article called ‘Geting Something for Nothing on the Soho Road’.
As part of our tasks for the Master’s course in Urban Design were put in groups and instructed to create a live art/urban design event on Soho Road, taking into account who uses Soho Rd, how, why, and all the pros and cons, etc. We ended up covering the benches by S&D Supermarket with canvas and stopping passers-by of all walks of life to write, draw, colour, whatever they wanted to, to prove that benches and other ‘street furniture’ – railings, walls, streetlights, etc – can become unique, rather than looking the same everywhere you go).
